Significant Environmental Benefit Principles & Offsets

In June 2013, the South Australian Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources (DEWNR) proposed a number of changes to the Significant Environmental Benefit (SEB) native vegetation offsets policy linked to the Native Vegetation Act 1991. Among the changes were a revised methodology for SEB payments and changes to clearance offset ratios.

Draft Energy White Paper

The Coalition-commissioned Energy White Paper is due for completion late in 2014. SACOME joined the Minerals Council (MCA) in co-badging a submission to a draft released in December 2013.

While the RET review fits into the policy agenda articulated in the draft, among the key differences to the previous Government’s White Paper was the mention of nuclear energy as an emerging alternative energy source, which the submission supported. SACOME is also supportive of the broader policy agenda focussed on the productivity, efficiency and competitiveness of Australia’s energy sector.
