The future of mining in the Woomera Prohibited Area Red Zone, potential for offshore drilling and ongoing success of SA's copper discoveries featured in an informative presentation from Dr Paul Heithersay at a SACOME Lunch.
Dr Heithersay, Deputy Chief Executive, Resources and Energy, DMITRE, updated over 360 guests on recent and future activities surrounding minerals; oil & gas; and geothermal areas. Dr Heithersay noted that times were tough for the junior miners, but highlighted recent high grade copper discoveries as a positive for the State's future. He also touched on the Olympic Dam expansion and updated guests on the PACE 2020 program.
Questions from the audience raised concerns that the WPA Red Zone - which contains much sought after high grade deposits - and when the resources sector will have access to this area. New General Manager at Bureau Veritas Amdel, Trevor Crispin, gave the vote of thanks and praised DMITRE's excellent work.
